PatchWerk's April 2010 Session Report


Who's Werking in Studio 9000?


Since Alicia Keys' debuted her fourth studio album, 'The Element of Freedom' it has become certified platinum by the RIAA within its first month of release and has spawned five singles that attained chart success. Alicia Keys continues to stay busy working in the studio. Recently she stopped through PatchWerk Recording Studios to work with guest engineer Ann Mincielli, assisted by PatchWerk engineer Dee Brown.

Prior to their commercial debut in 2009, Young Money frequently appeared on rapper Lil' Wayne's mixtapes. Since then Young Money has grown into a hip hop supergroup. Recently they debuted their first studio album, 'We Are Young Money', and it has peaked at the ninth position of the Billboard 200 in the United States.This past April, two of its nineteen members, Tyga and Lil Twist had several sessions at PatchWerk. Tyga's sessions were engineered by PatchWerk engineer Mike Miller, while Lil Twist's sessions were engineered by PatchWerk engineers Dee Brown and Tripp Tiller.

Atlanta born rapper and former Bad Boy recording artist Yung Joc, has recently penned a major deal with RCA/Polo Grounds Music for his new label, Swagg Team Entertainment. The deal will allow Yung Joc to not only be an artist, but also to sign emerging acts to his new label too. Bryan Leach, President of Polo Grounds Music said: "Joc is a triple threat. As an artist, executive and personality, he is now entering a higher phase of his career and I'm happy to play a part in it." Yung Joc was in PatchWerk Recording Studios this past April having several songs mixed by Guest engineer Ray Seay assisted by PatchWerk engineer Dee Brown.

Who's Werking in Studio 995?



Goon Affiliated is the fourth studio album by Atlanta rapper Plies and is scheduled for release by Atlantic Records on May 25, 2010. Plies started recording this album from the time his second album Definition of Real was released until about March 2010. Plies recently locked out PatchWerk Studios for several days, while having songs mixed by Leslie Brathwaite assisted by PatchWerk engineer Brian Pedersen.

Newcomer, YelaWolf has signed a deal with Interscope Records after interest in the 30-year-old Alabama rapper surged at the SXSW music festival in Austin, Tex. YelaWolf will release his major label debut album on Interscope through his current independent label, Ghet-O-Vision Entertainment. YelaWolf says there's no timetable yet for his debut album, but he plans to release a new mixtape in June entitled "Trunk Muzik 0-60," the follow-up to his acclaimed January mixtape, "Trunk Muzik," which featured Bun B, Raekwon and Juelz Santana among others. Yelawolf was recently in PatchWerk having songs mixed by Leslie Brathwaite assisted by PatchWerk engineer Brian Pedersen.

Trill OG (a play on the word "trilogy") is the third solo studio album by UGK member Bun B, and will be the third album in his Trill series. The album is set to be released under Universal Records after leaving his former label, Asylum Records. In January, Bun B told MTV that the album was scheduled for an April 2010 release. Additionally, Bun confirmed a collaboration with "a hip hop legend and a cultural icon" on the same song, but did not elaborate. The song will be released sometime during summer 2010. The first single is reportedly entitled "Countin' Money", which features Yo Gotti & Gucci Mane. Bun B was having songs mixed by Leslie Brathwaite assisted by Brian Pedersen at PatchWerk Studios this past April.

Who's Werking in Studio 1019?

Having sold over 5 million albums and performing to sold-out crowds around the globe, Musiq Soulchild's latest release 'Onmyradio' which was released in 2008, reached the 1 spot on Billboard's "Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums" chart in its second week out. The album received considerable critical praise, and in the summer of 2009 Musiq had 3 smash singles, "sobeautiful" and "IfULeave (Feat. Mary J. Blige)" and with "Chocolate High (Feat. India.Arie) all in the Top 10 on the Urban A.C charts. More recently Musiq was in PatchWerk Studios for a few days with Engineer Khalifani. Be on the look out for Musiq's 6th studio album slated for a 2010 release!
