I bet you always wondered how far your music would take you. Did you always wonder how to give you music the best marketing tool? Well consider writing songs for film! Film producers need people to write scores for their films, specifically writers who also fit the talents of artists and record producers.
It takes time to get into that industry. Well for starters you may need to be in the major film meccas of the planet (Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, London, etc). This however shouldn't limit you seeing as film making takes road trips to other major and minor cities.
The Contract
The producer will hire the composer which makes the matrimony under contract. They are put into a commissioning agreement. Basically what that means is the composer is slated to make an original song within a specific amount of time according to the producers guidelines, as it pertains to the movie and the scene the song will be featured on. Then the writer receives an initial fee usually payed for the song and the lyrics, along with future monetary improvement...if you know what I mean!
The writer will have to figure out whether they are writing a whole song or just to provide lyrics. You will also have to figure out if the producer will provide screen credit at the end of the film. Just ask local producer and frequent I Do Music Attendee Ayo how he was able to land one of his songs on The Inside Man soundtrack.
