What We Look For in A Song...?

Experienced singers, songwriters, music publishers, contest judges and lyric-writing teachers all look for specific qualities in a song lyric.

Here are some of lyrical aspects they are looking for: A compelling and effective Title/Hook, a clearly stated Story or Theme; Progression of Idea that’s logical and easy to follow; Rhyming that’s inventive and engaging; an effective lyrical Structure that can be adapted to music; vivid and colorful Imagery; and a sense of Originality.
