Last month Charts brought a race to the finish for Taylor Swift and Susan Boyle. Taylor having the highest selling album for the 2009 year at 3,217,000-- had a new competitor in Susan Boyles’ “I Dreamed a Dream.” She has sold a total of 3,104,000 albums in a six week span of time. Something no other debut album has done… to follow the pack is Michael Jackson’s “Number Ones” selling 2.36 million. Lady Gaga, one of the breakthrough artists of the year sold 2.24 million. For this past year, there were 373.9 million albums sold in the US. These figures are down from last years’ 428.4 million albums sold. Though cd sales are declining, digital sales are up, 1.159 billion digital tracks were sold in 2009. What will the New Year hold for the world of music?
