If only it were that easy…one click and poof! Sorry we had to be the one to break it to you but becoming successful in this business takes a little more than doing things like posting a thousand MySpace bulletins every day, adding 25,000 friends every month, or sending out email blasts of your songs to countless A&R’s that have never heard of you outside of their inbox. Our point is that if you want to make it in the music industry you have to get off your behind and MAKE IT HAPPEN. Your biggest asset is YOU so go out there and sell it. Initiate and build relationships with not just the right people, but all people. This industry is very small and you are bound to run into the same people over and over again.
IT’S YOUR LIFE. MAKE IT WERK!
As ludacris as it may sound, we are telling you to disturb your own peace and think outside the box of typical things all these artists are doing to try and standout from the crowd and become successful in this competitive business. This means getting up from your personal computer, and thinking of different ways you can move things around in your own life to make things werk for YOU. In addition, every chance you get go out there and showoff in a sense. You have to exploit your unique assets and characteristics because those are what will drive your brand as an artist of any sort. Especially in this day and age, people are more interested in you-the person, more than they’re interested in knowing about you-the artist. Think about it…why else would 85% of MTV’s programming consist of reality shows about Joe Celebrity’s life?
NO PLAN NEEDED
Contrary to popular belief having a plan is not the beginning and the end. It is far more important that you know what you want at the end of the day. This utmost goal, if sincere, will drive your every action and take precedence over any distractions. Instead of trying to develop this full proof plan to the top it is much wiser to make sure you are making use of all of your resources and taking full advantage of every opportunity that comes your way, keeping them inline with your end goal.
So the next time you run across a website that promises that they can take your career to the next level by simply “clicking here” to register, think about this article before spending your life savings on a full years membership. You can gain much more from earning the loyalty and respect of your local community by doing shows, promoting your project, selling your CD’s, and consistently putting out great music.
