Is there a science to making a Hit record?
There could be some truth to this. Music Intelligence Solutions is a company that has software called hit song science. This software has found that hits have certain common patterns of rhythm, harmony, chord progression, length and lyrics. A series of algorithms that are used to look at what's the potential of a song to be sticky with a listener. A study conducted by the Harvard Business School found that the software was accurate 8 out of 10 times. The Black Eyed Peas' single "I Gotta Feeling" received a hit score of 8.9 out 10. The song has so far sold 4,000,000+ digital downloads in the United States.
