Why go indie? Chapter 1

Whats going on independent family? There is alot of changes in the music industry. I guess you could say that the biz has gone through it's own recession. I mean we got mandatory 360 deals as well as DRM-free music. These are just a few of the phases that create a new environment which could indeed make or break you in the biz.

So watchu' sayin'?

Basically, if you have the opportunity to go to an indie label as opposed to the major go indie! I say this because you have to handle your music just like the stock exchange don't invest in a stock that you know is in trouble, because you will get screwed.

The Love
This is something that you should figure out. Is the love in the music? Following the money will not get you anywhere, according to Ray Daniels(last I do Music). How can you put passion on wax. This will be felt to your listeners

The Creation
This absolutely means nothing if you go to a major label, many problems that arise with that is you have to fit a certain criteria in terms of the material of your music. This means that when you work with a company you pretty much have to fit the guidlines of the corporation. Now this does not go for most major labels. The trend for most indie labels is that the room for creativity is vast.

The Netwerk
For independent labels you really have to target your local area first. With indie labes YOU have to be on top of your promo game, to the point where you have to do it yourself to a certain point. With major labels the usually deal with marketing and building fan bases (in some cases).
